5 Essential Tips for Writing Engaging Blog Content

Unlike traditional content such as web articles or press releases, blog posts allows you to toy around with the structure and the tone of the content to provide a sense of personalized familiarity with your readers. It plays an instrumental role in reaching out to your clients on a regular basis, and also allows you to educate them on the changing trends in the market. However, it is your duty as a writer to provide your clients with content they enjoy reading. Here are five tips to help you write engaging blog content

1. Break it down: Online blogs are read on digital screens, either on a computer screen or on a mobile device. Looking at a monotonous luminescent screen can be stressful to the eyes and can even induce boredom. It is hence advised to break down your content into manageable chunks in the form of bullet points, paragraphs and lists. This makes reading easier and encourages people to stay on the blog, and possibly even check out other blog posts as well.
2. Check on the word count: The length of the blog posts play an important role in keeping the readers engaged. It is counterproductive to have blog posts that are either too short or too long. Blog posts that are too short seem like they are rushed through and do not provide enough information, and the length of longer blog posts can discourage the readers from reading the entire thing. Although both categories have exceptions, they are far and few in between. SO how long should your blog posts be? Anywhere between 300 to 600 words. The length is short enough to get your readers to read it at one go, but long enough to integrate credible amount of information.
3. Keep it informal: Blog posts can be a great way to generate dialogue between you and your readers. Writing a blog post in a tone that makes it seem like you are talking to your readers, with expansive use of “you”, “I”, “we” etc. can make your writing more personal and relatable. Use anecdotes, and sneak in colloquial phrases that are not encouraged in formal writing to spice up the content.
4. Pictures are distracting: In one of my previous blog post, I’ve told you that pictures an info graphics are among the best ways to get your ideas through. They still are, but having pictures in the midst of text can be quite distracting. You can have up to 3 images in a blog post, but any more than that will make the blog post make it seem like the content is predominantly picture oriented, and people will skim through the pictures, ignoring the written content.
